Dr. Roger Unger (1924-2020) was a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern and held the Touchstone/West Distinguished Chair in Diabetes Research. He and his laboratory made numerous contributions to the understanding of the physiology of diabetes, including the discovery of the role of glucagon. He was the Director of the Touchstone Center for Diabetes Research from 1986 to 2007. Dr. Unger joined the Southwestern Medical School faculty in 1956. He was honored with membership in the National Academy of Sciences in 1986 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1994.
