Officially known as the Skin Transplant Center for Burns, the Dallas Skin Bank opened in 1973 as a repository for human skin to be used in treating severe burns. At the time of this photo, the Dallas bank was the only skin bank that endeavored to be a national resource. In 1976, about 150 Dallas patients received skin from the bank while approximately 100 patients received it outside of Dallas.
