On May 1, 1995, Dr. Stephen Hawking (left) shared his three decades of personal experience of living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with a packed audience on the UT Southwestern campus. He explained his theories about how he managed to thrive mentally even as his physical condition deteriorated. Pictured with Hawking are Richard Barohn, M.D., and Patricia Winchester, Ph.D.
