Dr. Andres Goth, M.D. joined the faculty of Southwestern Medical College in 1944, and served as Chairman of Pharmacology from 1950, when the department was first organized, until Dr. Alfred G. Gilman took over as Chairman in 1981. As a research scientist, Dr. Goth was known for his studies of the mechanisms of histamine release. Dr. Goth's name is well-known for his authorship of the book 'Medical Pharmacology: Principles and Concepts' through eleven editions from 1961 to 1984. After he handed over the editorship, the book was known as 'Goth's Medical Pharmacology' in its twelfth and thirteenth editions in 1988 and 1992. Dr. Goth was also renowned as a teacher.
