A child who had received burns over most of their body is comforted by a nurse at Parkland. The child wears special clothing designed to protect the skin and minimize scarring from the burns and grafting around 1977.
The Parkland Memorial Hospital Burn Center, headed for many years by the late UT Southwestern faculty member Dr. Charles Baxter, has been a pioneer in the treatment of burns, including children with extensive burns. The child in the photograph survived thanks to skin grafts from the Parkland skin bank.
