On August 18, 1996, 162 students of Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School were presented their diplomas and certificates during a graduation ceremony in the Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium. In 1968, Charles C. Sprague, M.D., then Dean of UT Southwestern Medical School, initiated the planning for a new School of Allied Health Professions in Dallas. Students were first enrolled for the 1970-1971 academic year in baccalaureate programs in Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, and Rehabilitation Science and in a post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship.
