Dr. William (Bill) F. Ross was the Chairman of the Department of Family Practice and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern from 1984 to 1993, after heading the Division of Family Practice from 1977 until 1984.
Under the leadership of Dr. Ross, UT Southwestern developed family practice residences in five locations. These residency programs had a major impact on primary care in Texas, including sending physicians to underserved rural areas.
In early 1993, the UT Board of Regents established the Dr. Bill Ross Professorship in Family Practice in his honor.
