Dr. Thomas C. Südhof was studying synapsis and other proteins that play a key role in the way brain cells communicate with each other. Dr. Südhof, who was a professor of molecular genetics at UT Southwestern and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, reported on this research in two separate issues of 'Nature' published in June 1995.
