Kern Wildenthal, M.D., Ph.D., served as President of UT Southwestern for 22 years, from 1986 to 2008. His association with UT Southwestern dates to 1960, when he came to Southwestern Medical School as an 18-year-old student. He received his M.D. degree in 1964. After further education and research training, he returned to UT Southwestern in 1970 as assistant professor of internal medicine and physiology. From 1976 to 1980 he served as Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. From 1980 to 1986 he was Dean of Southwestern Medical School. In 2001, Dr. Wildenthal was elected to the prestigious Institute of Medicine.
