In 1984, Dr. Hunt Batjer examined the degree of success of standard treatments at the time for 'hypertensive intercranial hemorrhage'. His study included an analysis of medical and surgical procedures given to patients, with the hope of determining optimum ways of saving lives. Dr. Batjer later became Chairman of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern in 2012.
