Zale Lipshy Hospital opened in November 1989, as a private clinical teaching hospital for the UT Southwestern Medical School. In 2001, operations of Zale Lipshy and St. Paul Hospitals were merged under the umbrella of University Medical Center, Inc. On January 1, 2005, UT Southwestern took over operation of Zale Lipshy and St. Paul, adding 'University Hospital' to their names.
