The Dallas Skin Bank was created in 1973 as a repository for human skin to be used in treating severe burns. Human skin may be transplanted immediately or frozen for later use. At the time of this photo, Heck was the research associate in charge of the Dallas Skin Bank, and approximately two-thirds of the skin deposited in the skin bank was used by Parkland Memorial Hospital burn patients. The remaining third was shipped to patients at 16 other burn centers across the country.
