Dr. Charles Pak is a Professor of Internal Medicine and holds the Rabiner Distinguished Academic Chair for Mineral Metabolism Biotechnology Research. He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1972 and spearheaded the creation of the Division of Mineral Metabolism. In 1994, the Charles and Jane Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research was established with Dr. Pak as the Director. Dr. Pak is a world-renown leader in mineral metabolism research. He has devoted himself to the study of kidney stones and osteoporosis and their treatment. The research conducted by him and his team has resulted in the development of several drugs used world-wide, including Citracal, for the prevention of osteoporosis. Dr. Pak has received several awards for his work. He retired from leadership of the Pak Center in 1999 and from leadership of the Division in 2003.
