Dr. Rupert Billingham (1921-2002) was Chairman of the Southwestern Medical School Department of Cell Biology from its inception in 1971 until his retirement in 1986. He was a pioneer in the fields of reproductive immunology and organ transplantation immunology. A native of Great Britain, Dr. Billingham was a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, the British honor which is equivalent to membership in the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
