Dr. Robert R. Shaw was a professor of thoracic surgery at Southwestern Medical School in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He treated Texas Governor John Connally on November 22, 1963, after Connally was wounded in the same shooting that killed President John F. Kennedy. Dr. Shaw had many other notable accomplishments. From 1937 to 1970, he established in Dallas one of the largest lung surgery centers in the world. He and his wife Ruth also went to Afghanistan several times to teach modern cardiac and thoracic surgery.
