The statue entitled 'The Mentor' was created by Ben J. Wilson, M.D. and inspired by Dr. Wilson's memory of Carl A. Moyer, M.D., his mentor and predecessor as Parkland's Chief of Surgery.
'The Mentor' was created by Dr. Ben J. Wilson who retired as a surgeon to become a sculptor. Dr. Wilson served as Chief of Surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Chair of UT Southwestern's Department of Surgery from 1952 to 1960.
The sculpture was inspired by Dr. Wilson's memory of Carl A. Moyer, M.D. (1908-1970), his mentor and predecessor as Parkland's Chief of Surgery. The statue stands in Zale Lipshy University Hospital.
