Dr. Eric N. Olson is a Professor and the Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology. He holds the Annie and Willie Nelson Professorship in Stem Cell Research, the Pogue Distinguished Chair in Research on Cardiac Birth Defects, and the Robert A. Welch Distinguished Chair in Science. His research focuses on genes that control heart development. He has been honored with membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1998), the National Academy of Sciences (2000) and the National Academy of Medicine (2001). Dr. Olson joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1995, at which time he founded the Department of Molecular Biology.
