Dr. Marion Thomas (Pepper) Jenkins graduated from the UT Medical Branch in Galveston in 1940. He arrived at Southwestern Medical School in the mid-1940s and was the Chief of Anesthesiology at Parkland from 1948 to 1981. He also served as division Chair of Anesthesiology at Southwestern Medical School and then as full Chair, when Anesthesiology became its own department, until his retirement in 1981. Dr. Jenkins' pioneering role in the development of UT Southwestern and the Anesthesiology department is described in detail in the 2001 book 'Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas: The First Fifty Years' by Adolph H. (Buddy) Giesecke.
