Dr. Duke Samson was a Professor and Chairman of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern until his retirement in 2014. He joined the faculty in 1977 and assumed the Chairmanship of Neurological Surgery in 1985. In 2011, he received the third annual Patricia and William L. Watson Jr., M.D. Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine. Dr. Samson was known for tackling the most complex and demanding neurosurgical cases. His success in such cases helped build UT Southwestern's reputation as one of the nation's best hospitals for neurological surgery.
