A 1947 graduate of Southwestern Medical School, Dr. Williams served as the medical school's Associate Dean for Student Affairs from 1970 to 1990, and then as Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs until his retirement in 1995. He was beloved on campus for his tireless work to ensure that the medical students had a first class educational experience. The Bryan Williams, M.D. Student Center, which opened in October 2002, was named in his honor. Dr. Williams was elected to the prestigious Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 1970, the first UT Southwestern faculty member to be so honored. Upon his retirement as Dean of Students, Southwestern Medical Foundation presented Dr. Williams with the Ho Din Award, the first time in more than 40 years that the award had been presented to a UT Southwestern faculty member.
