Dr. Ron Anderson was a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern and was the President and CEO of Parkland Health and Hospital System from 1982 to November 2011.
In 1985, he played a major role in the passage of landmark Texas legislation that banned the 'dumping' of indigent patients. He became a national spokesperson on the issue of 'patient dumping' and an advocate of federal legislation that was signed into law in 1986.
Dr. Anderson was elected to the prestigious Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 1997.
After stepping down as CEO of Parkland in 2011, he served as Senior Advisor to the CEO. He passed away in 2014.
