In 1977, philanthropist Margaret McDermott donated funds to add a work of art to the lobby of Gooch Auditorium. New York artist David Novros was commissioned to create a fresco to decorate the walls. Novros's preparatory drawings for the fresco were published in a 1978 book titled 'David Novros: Fresco Drawings. Preparatory studies for a fresco executed at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, summer 1977'. The book was published by the UT Health Science Center.
