Opened in 1974, at the same time as the buildings which surround it, the Eugene McDermott Plaza is the open-air architectural center of the South Campus, with pergolas, plantings, and seating. In this view, taken after the plaza's remodeling in 1988, the Eugene McDermott Academic Administration Building is seen at the far end of the plaza. The late Eugene McDermott and his family have been generous benefactors of UT Southwestern for many years.
