Drs. Haley and Kurt collaborated with Dr. Jim Hom on an experimental study in animals that demonstrated that the harmless doses of three chemicals used to protect Gulf War soldiers from insect-borne diseases and nerve-gas poisoning are actually highly toxic to the nervous system when used in combination. The UT Southwestern researchers collaborated with scientists at two other universities and the Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Haley directed the investigation. The findings were published in the May 1996 issue of the 'Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health'.
