Dr. Frederick J. Bonte was a Professor Emeritus of Radiology and a Senior Investigator with the Alzheimer's Disease Center. Dr. Bonte founded the Southwestern Medical School Department of Radiology in 1956 and served as Dean of the Medical School from 1973 to 1980. He left the Dean position to return to clinical and laboratory work, and in 1980 he became head of the newly-created Nuclear Medicine Center at UT Southwestern. In 1971, he helped establish the American College of Nuclear Physicians, which gave him its President's Award in 1997 for his pioneering work using radioactive materials to diagnose and treat diseases, especially of the heart and brain.
