Dr. Linda Buck received her Ph.D. from the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 1980 with Dr. Ellen Vitetta as her mentor.
In 1995, Dr. Buck was chosen to deliver the Graduate School's 'Distinguished Alumnus' lecture.
In 2004, Dr. Buck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly with Dr. Richard Axel for their work in explaining the mechanisms of the sense of smell.
