Dr. Parkhurst Shore joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 1961 as Associate Professor of Pharmacology and was made professor in 1963. Before joining UT Southwestern, Dr. Shore worked as a chemist in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and as head of the section on biochemistry of drug action and deputy chief of the laboratory of chemical pharmacology of the National Heart Institute of NIH. In 1968, Dr. Shore was named acting Associate Dean for Graduate Studies of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. In 1972, with the reorganization of the school into a Health Science Center that established the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Shore was named Acting Dean of the school. Dr. Ronald Estabrook succeeded Dr. Shore as the first appointed Dean of the Graduate School in 1973.
