During his 12 years as Chair, Dr. Mengert defined the organizational structure of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and published the medical textbook "Postgraduate Obstetrics" with medical illustrator Ruth M. Sanders. Ms. Foster, along with assistant librarian Violet Baird, were the first librarians on staff when Southwestern Medical College opened in 1943.
