Description

In this photo, Dr. Carleton B. Chapman (on the right) is standing next to Vice President Hubert Humphrey (in the middle) and Birdie Tebbetts (on the left) in the Vice President's Capitol Building office. Vice President Humphrey was presenting Tebbetts with the American Heart Association's "Heart of the Year" award. Tebbetts, who was a professional baseball player and manager for the Cleveland Indians, was the first sports figure to receive the honor. Dr. Chapman, president of the American Heart Association at the time, relayed the award to Vice President Humphrey, who then presented it to Tebbetts.
