Dr. Marvin D. Siperstein was a Professor of Internal Medicine and renowned researcher in diabetes and cholesterol metabolism who trained and inspired several generations of medical researchers, including 1985 Nobel Laureates Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein. Siperstein's research on the metabolism of cholesterol in the body served as the foundation for later work by Brown and Goldstein. He also made significant contributions to the diagnosis of diabetes and to the understanding of the basis of its complications. Dr. Siperstein came to Southwestern Medical School in 1955 and left in 1973 to move to the University of California San Francisco Medical School. This photo appeared in the 1963 medical school yearbook, "Iatros."
