Dr. Charles LeMaistre graduated from Cornell University Medical College in 1947 and completed his internship and residency in medicine at New York Hospital. After graduating, Dr. LeMaistre was a faculty member at Cornell and Emory University before coming to UT Southwestern in 1959 as a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. In 1964, he was appointed Associate Dean of the Medical School. LeMaistre became Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs for The University of Texas System in 1966, quickly advancing to Executive Vice Chancellor and then Chancellor-Elect. From 1971 until 1978, he served as the system's Chancellor. From 1978 until his retirement in 1996, Dr. LeMaistre served as the president of UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. This photo appeared in the 1963 medical school yearbook, "Iatros."
