Dr. George Thomas Shires sitting in his office looking at someone or something off camera. There is a window behind him and papers on his desk and side table as well as a certificate on the wall.
Dr. George Thomas Shires earned his M.D. degree from the Southwestern Medical School of The University of Texas in 1948 and completed his residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital. In 1957, Dr. Shires joined the UT Southwestern faculty and served as Chairman of Surgery from 1961 to 1974. His research on shock became the impetus for the medical practice of giving saline to trauma and surgical patients, a regimen still in use today.
