Description

Southwestern Medical School began a major expansion of its campus facilities in May of 1971. In this aerial view, believed to be from the summer of 1972, the medical school campus is at the center, with Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children's Medical Center of Dallas behind it. The medical school's McDermott Administrative Building (on the left) has almost reached its final height of twelve stories, while the Green Science Building (to the right of the Administrative Building) has risen just two full floors above ground level. Immediately in front of the Cary Building, the Florence Building is rising. A cropped version of this photo appeared on the cover of the 1972-73 Southwestern Medical School Catalog. In November, 1972, while the construction was in progress, the campus was reorganized to include three schools: Southwestern Medical School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Allied Health Sciences, and was renamed The University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas.
