Description

This was the seal of Southwestern Medical College from 1943 to 1949. It shows the lone star (symbol of Texas) overlaid with a caduceus (symbol of the early Greek healer Aesculapius). The final overlay is the outlines of the state of Texas and the four surrounding states. Outside the lone star but inside the circle are images representing the advances of modern medicine. The motto in Latin, "Per Scientiam Servimus", can be translated as "We serve through knowledge".
