Description

This "Modern Medicine" medallion was first located in Dallas' Medical Arts Building, which opened in 1923 on the northwest corner of St. Paul and Pacific streets in downtown Dallas. The building was conceived and built by Dr. Edward H. Cary, who was later the driving force behind the creation of Southwestern Medical School. The building was for many years the hub of medical activity in Dallas but was demolished in 1977. The "Modern Medicine" medallion and its sister, the "Hippocrates" medallion, are now located in UT Southwestern's Outpatient Building. The image of the medallion shown here was published on a notecard produced by UT Southwestern, circa 2006.
