Description

The Cary Building (completed in 1955) was the first building on Southwestern Medical School's Harry Hines Blvd. campus. This photo shows the lobby in 1965, with students chatting. Originally called the Basic Science Building, in 1960 Edward H. Cary's name was added to honor his role as the driving force behind the founding of the medical school. In the early 1970s, the Florence Building was built across the front of the Cary Building, and the entry seen in the background was remodeled into laboratory space.
