Description

The first building on Southwestern Medical School’s Harry Hines Blvd. campus, construction of the Cary Building began in 1952. The building was opened in 1954 and is still in use today. This circa 1965 photo shows the back wall of the Hoblitzelle Building (opened in 1959) adjoining and rising behind the Cary Building. Starting in 1972, the Fred F. Florence Bioinformation Center was constructed adjoining the front of the Cary Building. At present only the southwest and northeast sides of the Cary Building are visible. The building was named after Edward H. Cary, who was the driving force behind the formation of Southwestern Medical College, which opened in 1943.
