Description

Lewis Waters was the founder and chair of the Department of Medical Art and Visual Education at Southwestern Medical College (name changed to Southwestern Medical School in 1949). He directed the program from 1945 to 1961. Southwestern was the first educational institution in the world to offer the Master of Medical Arts degree; the first degree was conferred on June 3, 1947, to Patricia O’Neill.
