Description
The statue entitled "The Mentor" was created by Ben J. Wilson, M.D., a retired surgeon turned sculptor. This brochure was created for the dedication ceremony on January 28, 1992. Dr. Wilson served as Chief of Surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Chair of UT Southwestern's Department of Surgery from 1952 to 1960. The sculpture was inspired by Dr. Wilson's memory of Carl A. Moyer, M.D., his mentor and predecessor as Parkland's Chief of Surgery. The statue stands in Zale Lipshy University Hospital. More information about Dr. Wilson can be found on pages 43-44 of "Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas: The First Fifty Years" by Adolph H. ("Buddy") Giesecke, which was published in 2001.
