Southwestern Medical School began a major expansion of its campus facilities in May of 1971. In this aerial view, dated August of 1971, the medical school campus is in the center of the photo, with Parkland Memorial Hospital adjacent (to the left). Excavation has begun for the both the McDermott Administration Building (deep excavation at center of photo) and the Green Science Building (to the right of the McDermott Building excavation). In November, 1972, while the construction was in progress, the campus was reorganized to include three schools: Southwestern Medical School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Allied Health Sciences, and was renamed The University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas.
