Dr. Watts R. Webb joined the Southwestern Medical School faculty in 1963 and was co-chairman (with Dr. Robert R. Shaw until 1966) and then chairman of the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery until leaving Southwestern in 1969. Dr. Webb was a leading researcher in the area of heart transplantation. In June 1968, he led a team of surgeons that performed the first heart transplant on a woman; it was the first human heart transplant performed in Dallas and the 21st in the world.
