Description

Southwestern Medical School began a major expansion of its campus facilities in May of 1971. In this aerial view, believed to be from early 1972, the medical school campus is at the top, with Parkland Memorial Hospital adjacent (in the upper left corner). The medical school's McDermott Administration Building (upper left center) has reached about half of its final height, while the Green Science Building (to the right of the Administrative Building) has barely risen above ground level. Immediately in front of the Cary Building can be seen the excavation for the Florence Building. To the left of the Administration Building is the excavation for Gooch Auditorium. In November, 1972, while the construction was in progress, the campus was reorganized to include three schools: Southwestern Medical School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Allied Health Sciences, and was renamed The University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas.
