Southwestern Medical School faculty members Robert M. Pike, Ph.D., Professor of Microbiology (left) and S. Edward Sulkin, Ph.D. (right) Professor and Chairman of Microbiology, confer in Dr. Sulkin's office. Dr. Pike and Dr. Sulkin both joined the Southwestern Medical College faculty in 1943, the year the College opened. Dr. Pike would go on to teach for 31 years, until 1974. Dr. Sulkin served as Chairman of Microbiology until September 1972. He continued teaching and research until shortly before his death in December 1972.
