Description
Southwestern Medical School began a major expansion of its campus facilities in May of 1971. In this aerial view, dated May 2, 1973, the medical school campus is in the left center area, with Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children's Medical Center of Dallas beyond. The medical school's McDermott Administration Building (left center) has reached its full height of twelve stories, and the Green Science Building (to the right of the Administration Building) has also reached its full height. The Florence Building has risen to cover the front of the Cary Building. The lower rectangular building to the left of the Administration Building is Gooch Auditorium. In front of the Florence Building, excavation is under way for the lecture halls which will be under the McDermott Plaza. In November, 1972, while the construction was in progress, the campus was reorganized to include three schools: Southwestern Medical School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Allied Health Sciences, and was renamed The University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas.
