Description

Drs. Richard A. Finkelstein and Joseph LoSpalluto collaborated on cholera research, and were the first to isolate and examine the cholera toxin protein. In 1976, Dr. Finkelstein was honored for his cholera research by receiving Germany’s Robert Koch Prize. This photograph has the following label on the reverse: “A vial containing concentrated cholera toxin is examined by Drs. Richard A. Finkelstein (left) and Joseph LoSpalluto of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. The two scientists developed a complex process for isolating and purifying the disease causing material, helping pave the way for improved vaccine against cholera.”
