A young boy, with a cast on one of his legs, and a man are seated on the steps leading to Parkland Memorial Hospital's Outpatient Clinic. There is a line behind them leading to the left.
Patient areas at Parkland Hospital, prior to 1964, were racially segregated. After the Civil Rights Act of 1964, African-American and white patients began standing together in the same lines and sharing spaces within the hospital.
