Description

This photo records an event not seen at Parkland Hospital prior to 1964: African-American and white patients waiting together in the same line at the hospital's outpatient clinic. Parkland patient areas were racially segregated until 1964. Prior to that year, there were separate rest rooms, water fountains, elevators and dining facilities for African-Americans and whites. This photo was digitized from a booklet Parkland published in 2002, titled "History of Nursing."
