The Richmond Freeman Memorial Clinic opened in Dallas in March 1924 with a mission to treat children less than 12 years of age, free of cost to those who could not afford to pay (defined as those with incomes of less than $100 per month). Remarkably for the era, patients were accepted without regard to race or religion. The clinic was named in memory of Percy Richmond Freeman, Jr., whose family donated the bulk of the funds for the building and operation of the clinic. The clinic was an early forerunner of Children's Medical Center of Dallas.
