Nobel laureates Drs. Joseph L. Goldstein (left), Michael S. Brown (center), and Alfred Gilman were chosen to serve on a committee to select 10 new faculty members to be supported by grant funds from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In 1996, UT Southwestern was awarded one of the two largest grants sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
