Dr. James Wagner joined the faculty in 1989 and was an Associate Dean for Accreditation and Educational outcomes. In addition to his duties as associate dean, he taught in the internal medicine department and was voted 'Outstanding Teacher' for several consecutive years in the 1990s and 2000s. Dr. Wagner was a 1986 graduate of Southwestern Medical School.
